EXPLORE OUR CONCEPT

Lili works with "concepts" rather than collections or lines. By "concept", we mean the core inspiration for the designing and making of each bag or pouch. So every product fits into 1 of the 3 concepts below. Many overlap!

HANDMADE

This concept is about items made solely from handwoven textiles sourced and made all over India. From collected Dhurri rugs to rustic handloom checks and stunning Ikats, we put together simple and practical bags for your daily errands. DHURRI are one-of-a-kind pieces, CHECKS & IKAT are limited editions of about 10 pcs per fabric design.

UPCYCLE

Products made from this concept, are all made from waste materials which are up-cycled into new handmade textiles to make eclectic bags and pouches. Either waste textiles from factories in India or abroad which are cut into strips and handwoven or braided into new textiles, or different cotton and plastic wastes like rejected print runs from the packaging or cosmetics industries, discarded labels, failed fabric developments and more. These are also made into one-of-a-kind items or limited editions of 10-12 pieces.

LOCALOVE

This concept is all about pieces created using items & materials scouted by Lili in India's many fabulous local bazaar markets. From bathroom mats to blankets and rags, Lili deconstructs and then reconstructs these everyday Indian items or materials into funky & fun fashion accessories. It could be a vibrant striped throw blanket picked up in a local market in Goa or a stunning winter oversize floral blanket found in North Delhi, Lili collects them all, and after some time, brings them back to life in a new way, sharing her love of everyday India with the world.

THE JOURNEY
Joli India Kicked off in 2010

My dear friend and flat mate jonas and I had been sketching and brainstorming on exciting ideas for a while. We both had jobs but spent evenings and weekends releentlessly designing bags, pouches and wallets inspired by our love of LOCAL INDIA.

Jonas & I, had this almost unbearable enthusiasm about the colours, textures, materials, objects and artefacts seen and found, in our wanders through the Delhi streets and markets.

So infectious, these experiences, slowly prompt us to start”JOLI INDIA”.

Jonas (Jo) & | (Lili) = JO & LI = JOLI (means PRETTY in French)
